Kansas City, MO

Kansas City is the largest city, and second largest metropolitan area, in the state of Missouri. It is the central city of the Kansas City metro, which straddles the Kansas-Missouri border. Kansas City sits on the western border, Most of the city is located in Jackson County, but portions of the city spill into Clay, Cass, and Platte counties. The ARTS are well represented in Kansas City.

The Kansas City Repertory Theatre is the metropolitan area's top professional theatre company. Starlight Theatre is an 8,105-seat outdoor theatre. The Kansas City Symphony and the Kansas City Ballet perform at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The Civic Opera Theater of Kansas City performs at the downtown Folly Theater and at the UMKC Performing Arts Center.

Kansas City jazz in the 1930s marked the transition from big bands to the bebop influence of the 1940s and is a large part of Kansas City's history.

Kansas City is famous for its steak and barbecue. The Kansas City Strip steak is similar to the New York Strip. Along with Texas,Memphis, North and South Carolina, Kansas City is lauded as a "world capital of barbecue." More than 90 barbecue restaurants operate in the metropolitan area. The American Royal each fall hosts what it claims is the world's biggest barbecue contest.

Kansas City is home of the 2015 World Series Champion KC Royals, The KC Chiefs, and Sporting KC.

Lee's Summit

There are over 90,000 residents making Lee's Summit the sixth-largest city in the Kansas City Metro and in Missouri. There are many things to See & Do in Lee's Summit.

Missouri Town 1855 is an open-air museum with 25 buildings, that shows 19th-century lifestyle using interpreters dressed in period attire. Missouri Town 1855 was never an actual town. It is a representation of a mid-19th-century Missouri town with buildings moved from other locations in Missouri.

Lee's Summit Historical Cemetery has many local notable people buried there, including Civil War veterans and several members of the Confederate guerrilla band known as Quantrill's Raiders including Cole Younger.

Longview Mansion & Farm were built in 1914 by R.A. Long. This site was once known as "The World's Most Beautiful Farm" and is now a premier special events facility with 17 buildings on the National Register of Historical Places.

Powell Gardens is a 915-acre botanical garden located 20 miles East of Lee's Summit. Powell Gardens is open year round and has beautiful gardens, trails and lakes.

Unity is the world headquarters of the Unity Movement and offers free, historical tours of beautiful buildings, gorgeous grounds, fountains, golf course and rose garden. Unity is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
